Conflicting Commands Kill
Stop! No! Go!
Sometimes it’s hard to know what not to do first.
A BULLET DOESN’T STOP A CAR COMING AT YOU.
From the February 13 U. S. Customs and Border Protection – Use of Force Review, page 8 regarding shooting at vehicles.
“It should be recognized that a ½ ounce (200 grain) bullet is unlikely to stop a 4,000 pound moving vehicle, and if the driver of the approaching vehicle is disabled by a bullet, the vehicle will become a totally unguided threat. Obviously, shooting at a moving vehicle can pose a risk to bystanders including other agents.”
And this.
“Most reviewed cases involved non-violent suspects who posed no threat other than a moving vehicle.”
And this.
“There is little doubt that the safest course for an agent faced with an oncoming vehicle is to get out of the way of the vehicle.”
And this.
“CBP policy should be “Agents shall not discharge their firearms at or from a moving vehicle unless deadly physical force is being used against the police officer or another person present, by means other than a moving vehicle. Training and policy changes should be implemented to implement this policy.”
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said, “This is an experienced officer who followed his training,”[1]
Really? She should spend less time cosplaying and a little more time reading. Because right now the ICE policy of pulling people out of vehicles is a recipe for disaster.
News reports indicate that Johnathan Ross was with the CBP when this review came out. In other reporting it was noted that Ross was dragged by a vehicle 6 months prior and seriously injured. Ross is evidently a slow learner in addition to violating CBP/ICE training policy.
It’s also possible that he wanted to shoot somebody.
NYT VIDEO
I want to be clear that I believe sweet young mom Renee Nicole Good was murdered by the Fascist Trump regime. Videos taken at the scene substantiate that claim. She was a white suburban mom gunned down senselessly by a Trump ICE Gestapo agent that called her a “Fucking bitch” right after ending her precious life.
Can ICE ask an American citizen to identify themselves? Yes. They have every right to ask. And if you aren’t being detained you have every right to remain silent.
Can ICE pull American citizens over for running a stop sign or breaking the speed limit? Nope. Not their jurisdiction. They can’t enter a home/business/apartment building without a warrant either.
The video analysis done by the New York Times is excellent.[2] Here is the, link.
It’s conclusive. Renee Nicole Good was murdered.
MAGA would have us not believe our eyes.
In the interests of clarity I want to note that I have not yet viewed or listened to audio of the conflicting commands being given. There is only testimony from an eyewitness account. It’s also pertinent that ICE Gestapo is usually shouting early at a scene for witnesses to leave.
DEAD MAN TALKING
Years ago, and I mean we’re talking decades I was watching video on TV of a suspect standing in front of a house cornered by police close to the scene. A camera crew was already there. An older man, a person of color, had one hand up and the other arm behind his back. A young officer was loudly giving him instructions while pointing a gun at him. There were a number of other officers present also with their weapons drawn and pointed at him.
Lots of yelling ensued.
Show me your hand! Show me your hand or I’ll shoot! There better not be a gun in it! You better not have a gun in it! Show me that hand! Repeated several times.
I knew from the first set of commands the guy was a dead man. Obviously, the guy had a gun in his hand. The young cop was hollering at him to show him what he had told him that he better not have or he’d get shot.
The black guy pulled his arm from behind his back. There was a gun in it. More hollering. He was shot dead. In those days the video stopped before showing the man shot on camera. The on-camera guy just said that the suspect had been shot.
Repeatedly, we learned later.
FULL SPEED AHEAD!
When we were on strike, I was a gate captain at one of the picket lines. We were NOT denying people entry. Court orders prevented us from doing that. Two people walked back and forth at the entry road while I stood in the middle of the entrance. I was there to prevent drivers from zooming through and hitting a picketer with their vehicle. Police were also present.
The court order we were operating under allowed us to stop people before they entered the plant but as soon as they said they wanted to go in we were obligated to let them enter. Those trying to enter were mostly salaried workers not covered by our bargaining unit and we had no beef with them. A lot of the salaried workers would talk with me when I approached their car. We’d exchange pleasantries, I would clear the picketers, and they would enter.
Things were going well until the company security guard decided that things weren’t moving fast enough and nearly got me run over a couple of times.
I looked back and realized that the security guard was waving people through. The drivers were watching him NOT me. After a couple of near misses, I called him up to talk with me. A sheriff officer seeing this came up to join the conversation. I told the guard that we weren’t doing a time study and he needed to stop trying to rush people through the gate. The officer agreed with me. He had been watching for a couple of days, we had not had any incidents on the picket line, and I was following the court order.
The problem was that scabs were mixed in with the salaried workers entering the plant is and a few of them were looking for any excuse to run over a striking worker.
Some people are like that.
GO OVER THERE THE OTHER WAY! RIGHT NOW LATER!
When I was a Drill Instructor (DI) in the Army we would sometimes holler at trainees and give them conflicting or confusing instructions. I wasn’t the only DI that did this. I would like to say that there was a real good reason as part of their training to do this but there really wasn’t. We just did it to mess with trainees. Sometimes I would just holler gibberish at the top of my lungs to see what trainees would do.
The usual reaction was paralysis on the part of the trainees followed by them doing something unintended like running into each other as they tried to make sense of it.
So, what I learned is that conflicting instructions rarely have good outcomes.
A valuable life lesson.
